🌲 Course Characteristics & Helpful Tips
- Course Markings & Navigation: The course mainly follows the Skåneleden trail, marked with orange signs and reflective tape, plus red-white strips and directional arrows on non-Skåneleden sections. While marked, having the GPX file downloaded to your watch offers extra peace of mind for smooth route-finding.
- Long Night & Headlamp Strategy: With evening starts (100M at 18:00, 100K at 22:00), runners face many hours in the dark. Nordic autumn nights are long, so bringing a reliable headlamp and spare batteries is highly recommended. Getting used to night running in training is also great preparation.
- Trail Conditions, Weather & Mud: Depending on pre-race rainfall, sections—especially around Kullaberg—can get quite muddy and slippery. Sticky mud can cling to trail shoes, making them feel heavier. Checking weather forecasts starting about two weeks before race day is a great way to anticipate trail conditions and choose appropriate footwear.
- Coastal Winds & Layers: Coastal stretches often experience strong, cool winds. Wearing warm gloves, a beanie, and windproof layers helps keep you comfortable throughout the race.
- Aid Stations & Nutrition: Aid stations are spaced somewhat far apart compared to some alpine events, so carrying a little extra water and your favorite snacks is a good strategy.
